Cheeks

< Problem Areas

As we age, our face tends to lose volume in the cheek areas. This usually begins in the thirties and continues throughout life.

This volume loss is the result of loss of fat, muscle and bone. In the mid face, volume loss occurs mainly in the cheek area. This tends to create the impression of tiredness.

Also, loss of volume in the mid face causes a more square shaped face as opposed to the more youthful triangular or oval shape of youth.

As volume loss increases there is less support for the lower face and folds between the nose and lips (nasolabial lines) and corners of the mouth (marionette lines) form.

In addition, finer lines tend to occur in the skin over the cheek area due to lack of support. This has been likened to the look of a partially deflated balloon.

Volume loss in the mid face leads to lack of support for the lower face. This causes formation of nasolabial lines and jowls. Eventually this will cause a tired, saggy and less youthful appearance.
